Four Cities Dresses For The Shows
Four cities in three time zones, an average of 12 fashion shows a day, totaling about 250 shows a year. This is the month of fashion, not fashion week, months. And no time for “I have nothing to wear today.” (Yes, with a bulging closet happily even I say it).
On the positive side, I have never subscribed to the idea of peacocking, and is just as well, because it really does not do a very good. I do not always put color (navy blue and khaki is as colorful as I get), and impressions that repel me. I love to other people, but I always felt alien in me, and so aboard show dressed in the same way as any other day, except high between 10 and 15 percent thought.
My style is and has always been simple. The concept of a dress or a skirt day has never existed for me; Rarely away from blue jeans – from skinny to boyfriend (Paige), and what makes things easier when packing fashion week in New York, Milan and Paris – cities that do not have the luxury of your Total wardrobe to dispensing.
And so to the packaging; I never checked in luggage for fashion week. Mainly to eliminate the risk of my wayward suitcase (I can not think of a worse time to experience loss of luggage), but also because I’m a scrupulous packer; I never take more than I need. Five days before I left, I can check the time and then figure out exactly what to bring for the development of the ideas of the art in the days I’m away for. Six days requires six teams, with two additional looks for change of mood, and no more than three nightlife options. I try to do these calculations early bearing in mind some things may require dry cleaning.
Shirts and jackets is where my money goes when it comes to my wardrobe. For any fashion week, whenever I take at least four shirts (Tomé, Celine and Valentino are favorites, several jackets (my style Saint Laurent fringed leather, quilted leather bomber Jonathan Saunders, black tuxedo jacket Givenchy and before Valentino black number trimmed decorated with silver studs monkeys). A variety of jackets are my can’t-be-without, I wear jeans and a shirt every day but rely on a jacket to transform the look of grunge polish and everything in between. What I wear I have to take 9 to 21:00 at least so comfort is important. Any demanding or too complicated thing just does not work, and if I start the day Jimmy Choo heels or Tabitha Simmons, who rarely finish the day in them, and so always has a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths Raf Simons x slip into when they begin to pinch. The great thing about the show is that September It is still relatively soft (maximum of 30 is expected in New York) and therefore most days in my Manolo Blahnik and Paul Andrew gladiators floors.
Never underestimate the power of a blowdry; anything else I wear a blowdry suggests effort. I always book the day before flying, because for me, it is better sleep. When it comes to a manicure, to opt for an amateur without paint to make the brightness of the natural nail or a layer of pure pale pink; Hello Maintenance by Essie is a favorite. I had a manicure or navy blue red blue before, but for the three day show my nails are chipped and inevitably there is hardly time to remove it, let alone spend the time to get re-applied color.
The good news? If I’m missing something serious in my luggage, I’m always one of the best shopping capitals of the world, and yes, even with a schedule of some 250 shows that there is always time for a pit stop to make a purchase.
