James Corden Is ‘Thrilled To Receive An OBE In The New Year’s Honours List.James Corden has spoken of his excitement at being honoured with an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.The comic actor, who won the nation’s hearts as much-loved character Smithy in Gavin and Stacey, will receive the prize for services to Drama.
Speaking after the recipients were con firmed on Tuesday night, the funnyman said that he was ‘thrilled, overwhelmed and honoured to be recognised in such a way’.He added: ‘My family are very proud. My mum is already fretting about what to wear.’The star will find a familiar face on the list – his former girlfriend, Sheridan Smith, will also receive an OBE.She also shared her joy on Twitter, ‘Finally… I can thanku [sic] for your lovely messages! All extremely surreal I know but thank u to those of u for your kind support. Huge love!’It’s a stellar start to what looks like an already promising year for the comedian.It has been announced that he will take over as the host of CBS’s The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson.Ferguson’s run came to an end after 10 years on December 18.James recently got some on-the-job training from the 52-year-old host when he joined him for a segment. Guest hosts will fill in before Corden takes over with singer John Mayer, director Judd Apatow and comic Drew Carey among the schedule guest hosts.Busy father-of-two James is also promoting new movie, Into The Woods, in which he stars alongside Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.In the movie, slated for release on January 9, a witch tasks a childless baker [Corden] and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.
