Latest John Patrick Organic Ready To Wear Fall Collection 2015.John Patrick has had it with “fashionsbizz team.” For the Organic designer, the point is to make clothes—the stuff women actually buy and wear. This point of view has worked to Patrick’s advantage the past few seasons, as he’s found a nice rhythm as a designer of ever-so-slightly off-kilter staple items. This collection continued in that vein, emphasizing trusty pieces such as cardigans and trench coats, and then giving them a twist.
The cardigans, for instance, erred toward a long, lean shape that gave an updated proportion; Patrick’s trenches, meanwhile, came sleeveless and in neoprene. The designer’s nicest eccentric touch, in fact, was to execute much of his tailoring in a lightweight neoprene—not only did the fabric provide cropped trousers and jackets with a modern mien, but it served the season, too. Neoprene is a practical fabric for frigid weather. But where this collection really shone was in Patrick’s new range of seamless layering pieces—bandeaux, tube skirts, racerback tanks, leggings. Basic as all get-out, but luxe in cut and feel. Women will buy, women will wear.
